The Digital Tower is part of the city of Dublin’s ‘Digital Hub’ – an Irish Government initiative to create an international centre of excellence for knowledge, innovation and creativity focused on digital content and technology enterprises – on a nine acre site adjacent to the Guinness brewery. A ten minute walk from the city centre, the 15-storey tower is conceived as a landmark building – a sleek glazed office structure of the 21st century is contrasted and held within a stone ‘service’ element with zinc clad lift towers, that reflect the 19th century industrial aesthetic of the nearby brewery. The top contains a double-height restaurant that becomes both a lantern and a window onto the city.
The project gained planning consent in November 2007.
