Flow Gallery is situated in the heart of Notting Hill, London and was established by Yvonna Demczynska in 1999 to showcase the best of international and British applied arts. The gallery features six exhibitions a year as well as having a permanent collection of contemporary crafts.
Recognising the changing nature of her business, Yvonna asked JPA to look at the feasibility of retaining a strong gallery presence but also incorporate a residential element that could serve as her London base and a location for hosting more intimate ‘salon’ events for clients to meet artists and see new work in a domestic setting.

The solution for this Grade II listed structure was to excavate the main space about one metre to allow the insertion of a mezzanine floor, creating living space at lower ground and bedroom space above – all given natural daylight by a narrow light well to the rear.
While we make no claims for innovative living, the house and gallery are merged into one – a ‘salon’ that allows the owner to exhibit and enjoy her wares, while living in the heart of London.
